ID #2225

Fig Forest Walk, Mkuze Game Reserve, Zululand, Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal.

The sycamore fig that gave its name to the 3-km trail grows on the floodplain of the Mkuze River. It has a girth of 12-m and a height of 25-m. The figs are often the source of scuffles between trumpeter hornbills and other fruit eaters. This forest is one of the rarest forest types in South Africa. Mkuze is on the N2 northeast of Empangeni, which is on the N2 north of Durban, which is at the intersection of the N2 with the N3. AHMkuze
