Fish River Route, Port Alfred, Sunshine Coast, Eastern Cape.

Things to see and do east of Port Alfred. Distances are from Port Alfred.

•    Settler’s Church and cemetery. (2-km) national monument (1827). Opposite the BP Garage.
•    Sculptured Design. Hand crafted rugs in unique designs. Interesting factory tours daily. On the East Bank, past the BP Garage. +27 (46) 624 3090 telephone
•    Riet River (12-km).  Signposted. Follow a twisting road along the river for 1-km.  Park and walk east to the Three Sisters rocks (20-minutes).
•    Great Fish Lighthouse (19-km and a further 5-km on a gravel road). Appointment necessary as the gates are kept locked. Visits on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 14h00 to 16h00. Phone the keeper at +27 (46) 675 1067
•    Sherwood Crafts (19-km on the left). Cottage industry producing yarns and designer knitware.  “Pig Sty” coffee shop with farm fare. Nature walks. Also backpackers. Open daily, and weekends in season +27 (46) 675 1090
•    Cuylerville Church (1839) National Monument. 4-km beyond Sherwood where the key is kept. Interesting 1820 Settler cemetery beyond the church.
•    The Bus Stop (22-km). Craft centre and bus. Pottery baking, basketware, clothing, preserves, produce, pineapple crush, leatherwork, wool, dried flowers. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays out of Season. +27 (46) 675 1081
•    Nature View Farmstall and Tea Garden (24-km).  Shady trees and braai spots, nature walks, cliff-top views. Teas, scones, home preserves, pineapple juice, free range eggs, organic produce, dried fruit, nuts, art and crafts. +27 (46) 675 1099
•    Fish River Sun Hotel (28-km). Restaurant, golf, mini golf. +27 (40) 676 1101
•    Mpekweni Sun Marine Resort (40-km). Hotel and water world on the beach.  +27 (40) 676 1026
•    Village of Wesley: Complex on the right (58-km). Bira Crafts and M’nJ’s Cottage Kitchen for light meals, teas, jams, preserves. +27 (40) 677 1036
•    Hamburg. Seaside village 61-km plus a further 14-km on a gravel road. On the banks of the Keiskamma River. 18-km of navigable river, angling, canoeing, windsurfing. Beautiful beaches, permits available for beach vehicles.  Hotel, backpacker and tourist accommodation. River and deep-sea cruises. Oyster farm by appointment.  Birds, boat and bait.

Port Alfred is on the R72 west of East London, which is at the intersection of the N2 with the N6. BHFish
