ID #2652

Skaapplaas Hiking Trail, Mossel Bay, Garden Route, Western Cape.

Approximately 10-km and it takes 5-6 hours to complete. It passes through an indigenous stinkwood forest with tree ferns and tranquil mountain streams.  Birders paradise. The surrounding hills are covered with fynbos and are home to the king protea (Protea cynaroides). Panoramic views of the area. Admire the waterfalls and enjoy a cool swim in the natural pools in the Kouma River. See 600-year old yellowwood trees. Natural rock overhangs for a braai or a picnic. Pitch a tent, light a fire and enjoy the starry skies. There is a shorter route through the forest for elderly and young. Self-catering hut and an outside boma for a braai or campfire near the farmhouse.  Firewood available. Braai packs, refreshments on the patio and traditional potjiekos by prior arrangement. See Bushman (Bushmen) rock art.

In the Ruitersbos area at the foot of Robinson Pass, 5-km from the R328 between Oudtshoorn and Mossel Bay, which is on the N2 south of George, which is at the intersection of the N2 with the N12. Travel north on the R328 from Mossel Bay. Pass Brandwag and turn west onto the Haelkraal road (before Eight bells Mountain Inn). Turn right off the Haelkraal road towards Skaapplaas. BHSkaap
