Swartberg 4x4 Trails, Karoo, Western Cape.

Enjoy a delightful day with your guide, who will tell you about the people who lived here in days gone by, their customs, what they farmed and so on. The area abounds with beautiful nature scenes. Sit back and enjoy cool spring water, fruit juices and snacks.  Cold meals and wines of your choice.  Binoculars are available on the vehicles. Tour options include:

o    Half Circle (110-km, 5.5 hours): Travel along the Cango Caves road to the Rust en Vrede waterfall. Then on to De Rust en-route to Meiringspoort with its magnificent rock formations.  Swim in the pool at the base of the waterfall.  Visit Mons Ruber Wine Estate on the return trip to Oudtshoorn and taste some of the best wines in the area. 
o    The Circle (180-km): Visit the Swartberg Mountains, Prince Albert, the Karoo, Meiringspoort, De Rust and back to Oudtshoorn.
o    To Hell and Back:  Over the Swartberg Pass to Gamkaskloof (Die Hel). Listen to the mysterious stories and anecdotes of those who lived here in isolation for 150 years. The Otto du Plessis road was only built in 1960.  Earlier the valley was only accessible on foot, by donkey or on horseback.
o    Tsumkwe Game Farm (3.5 hours): A game farm about 15-km from Oudtshoorn. See camels, kudu, springbok, red hartebeest, klipspringer and more. See Bushman (Bushmen) paintings.
o    Swartberg Pass: A short tour up the Swartberg Pass.

Guides are fluent in English and Afrikaans, with German on request. Booking is essential. Oudtshoorn is on the N12 north of George, which is at the intersection of the N2 with the N12.     BHSwart
