ID #2026

Huberta the Hippo, Kaffrarian Museum, King Williamís Town, Border, Eastern Cape.

Huberta stumbled into the headlines in 1928 at the start of her 3-year, 1600-km trek from Richards Bay (Richardsbay) to the Keiskamma River near King Williamís Town. Her every move was reported so it was easy for trigger-happy locals to shoot her in 1931. Her stuffed hide has long been the most popular exhibit in the Kaffrarian Museum.

King Williamís Town is on the N2 northwest of East London, which is at the intersection of the N2 with the N6. AGHuberta
